In order for our project to be a success, there are several major tasks that need to be completed.
- Continue our discussions with the residents of Gorak Shep to understand their requirements and their long term sustainability commitments.
- Research bioreactors to determine how they function, paying specific attention to any reactors that run in cold weather climates.
- Determine the heating requirements to meet our goal.
- Modify the reactor design that BSP uses to optimize it for our heating methods.
- Design water-collection system.
- Determine the properties of the human waste input components.
- Calculate optimal loading for the available resources.
- Design gas-removal system.
- Survey site to select appropriate location.
- Ascertain local availability of the necessary materials required to build the biogas system at Gorak Shep.
- Build 8m³ proof-of-concept reactor.
- Let reactor run for a year, collecting data about how it performs.
- Use collected data to refine design for full-scale model.
- Given available materials and cost, determine size of full-size reactor (with 100% utilization of waste coming from Everest Base Camp as the optimal goal).
- Set up full-scale reactor.
